Stephen Trumbo, who teaches at the Waterbury campus, has published widely in scientific journals on the burying beetle, which is known for burying the corpses of dead mice and feeding them to its larvae. A recent study on one species of burying beetle confirmed unusual behavior of the insect preying on snake eggs. That could endanger declining populations of some snakes in Connecticut .
