Lynn Z. Bloom came to UConn in 1986 as the first endowed chair on the Storrs campus. The Aetna Chair has brought to campus many well-known novelists, poets, and essayists, to lecture and meet with writing students. It has supported writers-in-residence, provided teachers across New England with tools to help them teach writing, and it has led to a renewed emphasis on teaching students in all disciplines to write and communicate clearly. Lynn Bloom's research has focused on how students have been taught to think, read, and write for the past 50 years. She is about to publish her first book of creative nonfiction, The Seven Deadly Virtues and Other Lively Essays.
