Gregory J. Anderson

Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology

Gregory Anderson’s research in conservation biology and biodiversity centers on the origin and evolution of domesticated plants. In particular, he has studied the Pepino dulce (“sweet cucumber”) of the Andes, a domesticated plant that was used by the Incas and still is sold in supermarkets. Another topic that he studies, the reproductive biology of island plants, has repercussions for continents, too. Anderson, formerly vice provost for research and graduate education and research and dean of the Graduate School, has served a one-year appointment in Washington, D.C. as graduate dean in residence at the Council of Graduate Schools and the National Science Foundation.
